Whilst Tanzania is known primarily for its safaris, it’s beaches are completely stunning, fringed by the warm turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. Not only has it miles of mainland coast but it has some beautiful islands as well. The most well-known of these islands is Zanzibar. A few days on the beach after a safari or a Kili climb makes the most of this incredible destination. Places like Stone Town in Zanzibar can also add a third element to a safari holiday by offering a fascinating cultural immersion into days gone by.

Whilst the islands are stunning, the mainland coast is beautiful too. What we refer to as the Swahili coast includes such gems as Saadani National Park, the only wildlife park which is next to a beautiful white sand beach and Indian ocean. This section concentrates on Tanzania’s islands but if you have an interest in combining bush and beach, take a look at Saadani National Park in the Wildlife Parks section.
