Serengeti animals from a stunning water camp

Little Okavango camp opened in 2018 with just five lovely tented rooms. The western side of the Serengeti lacked decent small and intimate lodging so the Tent with a View team built this camp in safari style when it discovered the staggering bird life of the area. Located just a short five minute drive from the Ndabaka gate to Serengeti, Little O is the best option just outside the Serengeti. It’s favoured by those wanting to overnight somewhere before entering the park and also as a stop off on the way out. Those that do this miss out on indulging this tranquil corner of the world. If you have a couple of days free, it is worth spending a few days here. You will regret it if birds are your thing! Little O’s tented rooms are lovely & spacious with huge carved wooden beds and Maasai-themed decor. The bird lounge & bar area are comfortable places to relax and a great vantage point to watch the simply stunning variety of birds around the camp. This is one of the best places for birding in the country. The floodlands from the great Lake Victoria are next to the camp and bring in lots of birds. Gentle canoe rides can be taken in the morning or late afternoon drifting through tall papyrus grasses and out onto the expanse of the lake. Cultural visits to a nearby fishing village can be taken from the camp returning by boat via the fabulous Little Okavango Tower where brunch is taken whilst taking in the views.

The tower if the centre-piece of this lovely camp and has 3 separate floors, being the “Weaver deck”, “Lake Deck” and “Serengeti Deck”. Stop off here for brunch or afternoon tea and take in the beautiful views of weaver nests, lake and wildlife park.

This is a great little gem to stop at on the way in or out of Serengeti. Alternatively, if you want a Serengeti safari but don’t want to pay the high prices to be inside the park, base yourself here for 3-4 days and simply go into the park from here.
