Overview

Fundu Lagoon is located on the west coast of the island of Pemba, just north of Zanzibar and about a thirty minute flight. On arrival in Pemba, you take a fifty minute drive from the tiny airport with the final ten minutes being by speed making this all the more exciting and gives the feeling of being completely away from it all. This is our place of choice to stay on Pemba.

Whilst there is a beach, it is tidal so not the best for swimming. If powder white beaches are a requirement you’d be better off in Zanzibar. Fundu Lagoon is all about diving and water sports. There are some fantastic dive sites here as the area is known for the quality of its coral life.

The main part of the lodge is built out of wood and raised up on the natural incline of the coastline. As well as a large bar, there is a pool room & tv room if you can tear yourself away from the pool and hammocks. The sunset bar at the end of the incredibly long pier serves amazing cocktails before heading to the restaurant for dinner. Sunsets don’t come much better than this.

The rooms are all tented which is unusual outside a safari camp. However, this is what we like about the place as it feels authentic and romantic. Whilst there are no air-conditioners, there are fans. and the fact that the hotel is raised up, allows for lovely sea breezes. All rooms have large king size beds & good-sized bathrooms. There are several suites which have private plunge pools and salas outside with a minibar. The superior suites are the best rooms and these are huge double storey wooden structures with excellent private, outdoor space.

The activities here are extensive including, wind surfing, sailing boats, diving, snorkelling and kayaking.
