Overview

In our view, Kirurumu is the best of the tented camps set around the edge of Tarangire. It is only 15 minutes to the park gate and yet feels pretty wild. The camp fire outside the front of the lodge is a nice place to relax before dinner as sometimes animals walk through the camp in the dry season attracted by the swamp which is neatly placed at the front of the lodge. This is what sets Kirurumu apart from its competitors outside the park. The camp itself is of a good quality, especially given the low price.

The lodge is located in what is know as a Wildlife Management Area (or WMA) where the camp works closely with the local community to protect the wildlife through incentives thereby creating a buffer zone with the park helping to protect its wildlife.

Kirurumu has just ten tented rooms in typical safari style with thatched roofs. The rooms are nicely decorated with comfy beds and en-suite bathrooms. Due to the proximity to the local town and village, facilities are good and include mains electricity, a permanent water supply and internet facilities. The camp comes to life at night when the lamps are lit and the campfire burns.

The best time to visit Tarangire is July through October as it benefits from the annual migration from the Serengeti eco-system, which animals are attracted by the swamps in Tarangire that hold water year-round. The park has some fantastic wildlife and is a very pretty park with large baobab forests offering a stunning backdrop to the fantastic elephant migration that takes place each year, with some 8,000 crossing the park. As well as game drives inside the park, you can also opt to take a full day trek or mountain bike from the camp or a shorter botanical walk.
