Overview

Located on the east side of the crater, Lemala camp faces into the Ngorongoro conservation area as opposed to the Crater itself. It’s located in a wild indigenous forest which extends to the crater rim but faces east rather than into the crater itself. That said, it does have some game in the surrounding area which is a nice bonus. Lemala is a high-end camp with very good service and lovely authentic safari tents and décor. A bit of rustic safari luxury which is what we like. Like with Kirurumu, it sits well with our own safari camps in a tour, being small & intimate. Lemala has just 12 tented rooms which is as large as we’d go when recommending a camp to stay in.

There is also a family tent at the camp slightly away from the main camp ensuring privacy.

Lemala’s advantage over the majority of camps at the crater is its proximity to a lower volume of traffic entry route into the crater which means that guests can begin their game drives early, avoiding the traffic jams and queues. This is not to be underestimated at the crater.
