Overview
Plantation Lodge is quite pricey but one of the nicest coffee lodges to stay at in the area located just outside the small village of Karatu. It’s just over a 2 hour drive from Arusha and between Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater. The lodge is built in the old colonial farm house style and surrounded by beautiful garden lawns and vegetable gardens.
Whilst you can visit both Lake Manyara and the crater from the lodge, most people would stay just 1 night before entering the Ngorongoro Conservation area. However, if you’d like to visit Lake Manyara and maybe do a hike or visit the Hadzabe people, the last remaining hunter gatherers in Tanzania, you should consider a 2 night stay to really enjoy this place. Note however that they don’t provide safari vehicles and guides so you’ll need to come with your own if you want to do a safari from here.
The rooms are extremely spacious and comfortable and the dining is a real treat with plenty on offer.
