Overview

A similar standard to Sable Mountain is Rufiji River Camp, a good value option on the opposite side of the park to Sable and hence makes a good combination when exploring this vast terrain. Rufiji is one of the oldest lodges in Selous and owned and run by the Fox family who took it over in the mid-noughties and revamped it in 2010. The suites are particularly nice.

The camp is located not far from the Mtemere gate to the East of the park. Boat safaris are taken on the Rufiji River. Access to the camp is via a 45-minute flight from Dar es Salaam or an hour from Zanzibar.

There are 14 en-suite tents facing the Rifiji river with an open stone patio - a private spot to relax after lunch or where to take morning tea with wildlife all around you. There are also three family suites which are much larger and can sleep up to 4 people.

Guests can do game drives, foot safaris, boat safaris and fly-camping from the camp.
